Neil Darby

Neil Darby had a diverse career across Western Australia. His roles included teacher, deputy principal, principal, district director, regional executive director and executive director at the WA Department of Education.
His school leadership journey started with the remote school at Gascoyne Junction through to district high schools and primary schools in rural and metropolitan communities.
The variety of contexts informed his later roles in system leadership in the Goldfields, Albany, Fremantle–Peel Districts, Central Office, the Pilbara and Wheatbelt Regions and finally at Statewide Services.
His work with principals while a Director and RED provided Neil with insights into effective instructional leadership. This work led to a focus on culture and coaching leading to the improvement of student outcomes and staff coherence. Working side by side with principals and their teams proved enjoyable and rewarding for Neil in every setting.
Neil’s undertaking of these roles has been driven by the core belief that every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed.
